CMFAS M8: Collective Investment Schemes

CMFAS M8 (Collective Investment Schemes) is the Singapore College of Insurance (SCI) exam on collective investment schemes (unit trusts) and investment fundamentals: 50 multiple-choice questions in 1 hour, pass mark 70%.

For advising on units in collective investment schemes, the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) Notice FAA-N26 lists CMFAS RES5 (Rules, Ethics and Skills for Financial Advisory Services) with M8 and CMFAS M8A (Collective Investment Schemes II).

CMFAS CM-EIP (Capital Markets – Excluded Investment Products) counts in place of M8, and CMFAS CM-SIP (Capital Markets – Specified Investment Products) in place of M8A.

Who needs CMFAS M8

MAS sets the product modules by the type of advice you give and the type of products you advise on (MAS Notice FAA-N26, paragraph 4.3(b)), so the modules you need depend on the funds you advise on. Which modules you need depends on the activity, not on who employs you. MAS lists who need not pass M8 in Annex D of Notice FAA-N26.

Your compliance team confirms the modules for your role, and SCI also advises candidates to check with their compliance department.
